Engine Sound Increases At A Specific Gear?

Posted by Muzammil | Posted on 11/17/2010 03:51:00 PM

If engine sound increases at a specific gear (especially fifth):

In 5th Gear (Overdrive Gear) , TYRE rpm increases more than the engine RPM. (example if your engine is at 1000 rpm, your tires might be at 1500rpm).

Now your issue can be only of two sorts:

A. WHEEL BEARING NOISE:
Remember wheel bearing sound increases as you keep on increasing speed. At some time, if the wear and tear in bearing is new, at slow speeds you might not listen to that noise which you listen to at high speeds

B. GEAR BOX ISSUE:
There might be an issue with that specific gear only. Visit a reliable technician, and tell him to dismantle your gear box and have your car gears checked.

C. TIMING BELT ISSUE:
Check the timing belt and remember to get it replaced every 50,000 km. When your mechanic tends to replace the timing belt, tell him to check with the timing belt bearing as well.
